What I Do as an English Tutor
I help students improve their scores in English by teaching them techniques that they probably did not learn in school. The process of tutoring usually follows the following format:
1) I look at prior student assessments (writing sample, past exams and feedback, etc.) to determine strengths and weaknesses.
2) I meet with both student and parent to discuss goals, expectations, and process for improvement.
3) The parent, student and I determine the number of hours needed to achieve success.
4) Within 24 hours, I email the parent a quote regarding the investment of tutoring.
5) The student does the assigned work prior to the first official meeting with the tutor.
6) The tutor and the student begin their sessions.
7) Payment is due before the first session
“His lessons may be taught in a short period of time, but they will last a lifetime.”
“I’m getting A’s in English, mostly because of the writing assignments and skills Mr. Castellano taught me, and I’m thankful for all the advice he’s given me”
I GET RESULTS
If your children is struggling with starting, continuing or editing a school writing assignment I will how them how to finish the job.
“I never received A’s in English until Mr. Castellano started tutoring me. He even helped me with a major social studies writing assignment. Although we had our disagreements, I followed his recommendations. I received a 105 on that report!”
“Mr. Castellano reviewed a few of my papers. With his commentary, my papers always turned out to have great grades.”
- If your children needs to prepare for the English Section of the SAT, ACT, SHSAT or TACHS exam, I will show them how to study for the exam using all the techniques I've learned from my training as a certified teacher and as test prep center tutor.
“Mr. Castellano brought me from scoring in the 1800’s on my practice SAT exams to scoring a 2160 on the official exam. My test results improved drastically because of his systematic approach and knowledge of the test material.”
“Mr. Castellano tutored me three weeks before the ACT because I was unsure of my skills on the English section of the test. The results: my initial practice scores of 24, 29 and 8 on the writing, reading and essay section rose to a 31, 34, and 10, respectively, on the official exam.”
“Before I met Mr. John, I was scoring in the high 400’s in SAT Writing and low 500’s in the SAT Reading. After working with him for months, I scored a 690 on the SAT Reading and a 710 on the SAT Writing.”
“Mr. Castellano’s help in writing college recommendations and resumes helped me get into my desired college and land my current position as parent-coordinator of a New York City High School.”
The methods I use to help your children succeed in English are the same methods that I used to go from an undergraduate student with a 3.4 GPA to a graduate student with a 4.0 GPA. The methods I use in prepping your children for standardized exams are the same as those that helped me go from the 50th percentile of the SAT Verbal Section to the 99th percentile of the SAT Writing Section.
“Mr. Castellano is a reliable mentor and an incredible source of motivation. He taught me to step out of my comfort zone and to explore the world around me. He pushed me to own my strengths and accept my weaknesses. He sees potential in all of his students and the helps them strive to be the best they can be. ”
